give to, get back

After a simulation exercise, our MBB told us, “Anything that you have used, you can bring it home.” Upon hearing this, everyone got excited as they held onto their whistles and five hand clappers. Then the MBB said knowingly, nodding his head, “Oh. So you’re giving it to your kids.” Everyone laughed and nodded. Then he continued with a wide grin on his face, “Just remember though: What you give to them, they’re going to give it back to you.” Again, everyone laughed and nodded, because, of course, he was right.

Yesterday, my daughter gave to me what I gave to her, twice. Not (the noise of) the five hand clappers though.

You see, every time she wastes something (such as soap, water, and so forth), I always tell her not to; and when she asks why, I tell her it’s because we’re trying to save; and when she asks why again, I feel like I have no other choice but to tell her the truth that we won’t have the money to buy another one until the next month.

Then she gave this money–talk back to me.

For some time, I realized I cannot be absolutely right about telling her honestly about money since she has been doing the money–talk as often as she could. Take for example when my mother asked her why she’s not in The Play Room (playhouse in the mall) during the weekend. She quickly answered, “…because Mommy doesn’t have money.” The main point of the money-talk should have been we’re saving; and not about whether we have the money or not.

Anyway, I was of course bothered by her money–talk. So I sat down with her and told her she should stop thinking about money because she’s just a kid; and she’s only going to be a kid once. So she should enjoy being a kid and just be happy.

Then she gave this Peter Pan–talk back to me.

Yesterday, we had the following conversation:

Me: Ate, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Ate: Mommy, I don’t want to grow up. I just want to be a kid forever.
Me: Why? Ate, whether you like it or not, you have to grow up.
Ate: But I’m only going to be a kid once, remember?

So from that, I guess I
unconsciously visited mirisi dot com dot ph dot cebu slash bleh twice. LOL!
