rice from the heart

the sacks of rice

These past few days we hear of heartbreaking stories about the struggles and pains brought about by Typhoon Ondoy. Then there are stories of selfless acts of sacrifices as well.

Here’s one I heard of. It’s not that huge but it’s close to home.

A group of people managed to raise an estimate of P8,000 worth of rice by contributing at least two stubs of their daily meal allowance. Sure, the money may not be that big. But it was special as it was done on impulse. They all agreed to do it and finished it in a day and the sacks of rice were made available for donation the next day. And it was special in its ingeniousness. You know how life is difficult now. Almost everyone is tightening the belts, and almost everyone is cashless for incidentals like this. What a way it was to help without letting out cash yet sacrifice a little by scrimping on meals.

We Filipinos will never tire thinking of ways to help and reach out to others even in the midst of facing day-to-day personal battles and struggles.

Bayanihan is in the air – just one of the many reasons why I’m proud and grateful for being born a Filipino. =)

thats one thing that warms my heart, I read somewhere that was posted by one of my friends about this american who lives there- that the spirit of community is so much alive and people who dont have much are still willing to give. That's the part where no international news can capture; other than the typhoon destroying everything!
