I’ve never been one to wish on stars, on fountains, and on birthday cakes. It may be because it’s not a practice in my family (my parents are two of the most practical people I know); or it may be because I had to be grown–up to look after my sister and my playful older brother; or then just may be because I discovered fairytales so late than everybody else did. I was already busy playing and interacting with the ways of the world, real and hard. It’s just hard for Princes on their high horses to swoon me by. But then again, may be that’s just me.
When the time came we had fourth-generation kids (nieces or nephews) frequenting the house, I tried to give them that experience I never had. I made them look at stars, wave at the ocean, and ask the moon for anything they can think of and say, “Gimme money moon. Gimme money buy milk, diaper…” you’d be amazed what else they’d ask. I’d like to think (at least) I’m teaching them how to enumerate and articulate. LOL! Then I’d teach them to sing with (matching) eyes closed, and hand gestures, para artistahin. Haha. Jk. :hide:
Oh, it’s so much fun an experience; I swear I’d continue to do it until probably that time they’d sshh me, realize the distinction between reality and fancy (they have to), and tell me (this really happened) “Di man na motingog ang moon oi.” Kaubo. hihi.
